O Debate sobre OBAMA nos Trabalhadores Sociais NorteAmericanos

Que a imprensa do Serviço Social norteamericano não permaneceu indiferente à escolha de Obama antes e depois da sua eleição pode ser constadada nesta pequena amostra.

Obama watches from KC social workers’ home as wife addresses DNC
The Kansas City Star reports that Barack Obama watched his wife address the Democratic National Convention Monday night at the Brookside home of social workers Jim and Alicia Girardeau.
The Girardeau family, who has a neighbor on Obama’s campaign, had 28 hours’ notice that the Obama’s visit could happen. They didn’t know for sure until Monday morning.
They unplugged their phone and kept their 10-year-old home from school so they wouldn’t tell anybody. Alicia said she didn’t have to do too much cleaning or rearranging to make room for everybody.
Jim: “I was nervous about just chatting with the possible president of the United States.”
Alicia: “It was such a privilege to be there with him while he was watching his wife give probably the most important speech of her life. You felt like you were witness to some really intimate, private moment.”
Both are or have been social workers.

The Antisocial Social Worker is rendered speechless but features an informative illustration. Musings of a Grassroots Social Worker reproduces an inspirational quote from Obama about hope.Prin's Links for Social Work Students reflects that the election result means there is real change happening in the deep south.I also found a blog called Daily Mail, which is written by a US social worker. I guess only UK readers would enjoy the irony of a blog by a social worker called the Daily Mail!(For non-UK readers the Daily Mail is a right-wing British newspaper none too keen on social workers!)Anyway, she writes in response to Obama's victory:
if even one young man in my old community looks at President Obama and decides that he, too, will have the courage to be a good citizen, pursue a good education and someday commit to being an involved spouse and father, powerful changes will begin to happen in this country. It's also worth pointing out that Obama was a former community organiser and some have seen in his victory the re-birth of good old-fashioned community organising.
