Informo à categoria que dado o interesse em estudar e divulgar as produções nas Ciências Humanas e, em especial o Serviço Social Português, estou concretizando uma nova experiência de venda e permuta de material deicado aos potenciais interessados.




Serviço Social em Olhão (Portugal) Abrir Horizontes – Educar para Incluir

Vimos por este meio divulgar a realização do Seminário “Abrir Horizontes – Educar para Incluir”no próximo dia 24, no Auditório Municipal de Olhão.



Trata-se de uma iniciativa do Municipio de Olhão, no âmbito do Ano Europeu do Combate à Pobreza e Exclusão Social. A organização é da responsabilidade da Rede Social de Olhão em parceria com a Comissão de Protecção de Crianças e Jovens de Olhão e a Associação MOJU.



Com este encontro pretende-se fomentar um espaço de partilha, reflexão e avaliação sobre a problemática do abandono escolar e exclusão social, mediante a apresentação de boas práticas e experiências inovadoras de intervenção social, com base no desenvolvimento de competências pessoais de jovens em risco.



Serão debatidos temas como “Medidas de Prevenção e Minimização do Abandono Escolar”, “Educação pela arte”, “Formas de Intervenção no Combate à Exclusão” ou “Práticas Associativas para a Inclusão”.

Introduction



This project, Keeping the history of African social work alive: ASWEA seminar documents, began when I facilitated a Participatory Action Research project in Ghana from 2002-2004. The project critically examined the social work curriculum at the University of Ghana in light of colonization, modernization and globalization. During this time the research group were introduced to a body of knowledge that group members had not heard about and they confirmed that they had not been discussed in the social work courses there. This body of knowledge was documents of the Association of Social Work Education in Africa (ASWEA) seminars held between 1971 and 1989. On my return from my work in Ghana in 2004, I searched for these documents and found that most of them were housed in libraries in the United States. In speaking to my African colleagues in subsequent conferences and workshops as well as the executive committee of the newly formed Association of Schools of Social Work in Africa it was confirmed that few, if any, are still in Africa. I also found out that Dr. Yimam, the person behind getting these seminars into document form had passed away.

The fact that these documents were not available to African academics, teachers and practitioners was of grave concern to me and after finding all but four of the documents I wanted to collect, copy and bind these documents and send them back to Africa (See Appendix One for complete set of documents). The ultimate aim was to secure funding for a project in which I could prepare these documents and send them to appropriate Schools of Social Work libraries in Africa. This would give Africans the opportunity to analyze these documents and use them in the classroom. It would also add to the history of the profession of social work in the world, showing that Africa has a history of social work that is worth knowing about. In 2009, money was obtained through an International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) grant to collect, copy, bound and send these documents to Africa. This final report is a record of how this was accomplished and the important contribution IASSW has made in order that these documents could be preserved.

Rationale and purpose of the project

The rationale and purpose of this project was to preserve important African social work documents that could be housed in five regions of Africa, the Association of Schools of Social Work in Africa (ASSWA), the ASWEA archives in South Africa and in the archives of the International Association of Schools of Social Work in the USA. The preservation of these documents would enable appropriate teaching to take place concerning the history of social work in Africa and address the imbalance of western social work history that is so often taught in African social work classrooms. Access to these documents would enable African social work academics, practitioners and students the opportunity to analyze these documents. Through reading these documents, social work students and professors would learn about the evolution of African social work and what historical factors have affected this evolutionary process.

Description of the implementation process

This project is the second stage of a four stage process that entails 1) finding the documents; 2) copying, printing and binding the documents; 3) sending the documents to Africa; and 4) analyzing the documents (See Appendix Two). In describing the process of implementation I will use these stages as my focus.

Finding the documents

Between 2004 and 2007 I was able to find all but four of the documents in this series of ASWSEA seminars. I found most of them in United States libraries and more than once there was only one copy available. I also found reference to these documents in Asamoah (1995), Midgley (1981) and Yimam (1990). My first job was to find out if ASWEA still existed and if not who would take over the copyright of these documents.

Collaboration with the Association of Schools of Social Work in Africa



In July 2007, I met with the newly formed Association of Schools of Social Work in Africa (ASSWA) executive committee in Durban, South Africa at the IASSW conference. I discussed the overall project with them including the eventual analysis of the documents. The committee was in full support of the project and committee members were given the task of trying to find the four documents that I couldn’t find. They agreed the IASSW grant for projects in social work education would be a good place to find funding. In the meantime, Prof. Mwansa would look into the copyright issue. A sub-committee on the archiving of ASWEA documents would be formed with Dorothee Holscher, Linda Kreitzer, Ms. Afia Mugambi and Prof. Mwansa on the committee. It was also agreed that Dorothee would approach Wits historical papers archive about serving as the main depository of the ASWEA archives in South Africa. Once the funding had been secured then ASSWA would determine which universities in the five regions of Africa would be sent the copies. In the meantime, Linda Kreitzer would develop a plan for obtaining funding to copy and print the documents and a plan for the analysis of the documents by Africans living in Africa.

Prof. Mwansa was able to secure copyright for the documents and an official letter was sent to Linda Kreitzer so that she could proceed with copying and printing the documents (See Appendix Three).



Funding the project

A grant proposal was sent to IASSW in 2008 for funding for the project and the amount of $4,000USD was secured in 2009. The International Small Project Committee asked that I consider revising the budget and instead of the printed version of the documents, that we scan them onto CD’s and send them to all African schools as well as the Minnesota Archive for the IASSW. A subsequent letter was sent to the committee asking them to reconsider this suggestion and a case was made for the need to have printed copies of the documents as well as DVD’s of the documents. This was accepted by the committee.

Collection of documents

Once funding was secured, I found the documents and ordered them from the University of Calgary interlibrary loan department. From May 2009 until January 2010, I ordered three documents at a time due to the fact that they could only be out for a period of two weeks. During those two weeks, I spent most evenings at work copying the documents.

Copying and tidying of documents



When each of the documents arrived I copied each page. As each of the documents was a bound copy, I had to put each page of the document on the top of the glass so it could be copied properly. In order to avoid black marks around the edges of the copies, I increased the size of the page so that minimal marks could be seen. Many of the document pages that I received were marked up but the biggest issue was that they had been printed double-sided and the paper that was used was so thin that both sides came through on the other side. Therefore, each page had to be tidied with white-out. This was a painstaking task but an important one. Another issue concerning the printing of the documents was that two of the documents I received had pages missing. Fortunately, the interlibrary loan staff was able to find another copy of the document and have that library’s staff scan the missing page and send it to me. This took a lot of time but eventually I am sure that we have all of the pages for each of the documents. Some of the print was very light on some pages and I had to go over words that didn’t show well with a pen so that people could read the print. After each document was copied and before the library copy was returned another check was made to be sure that all the pages were there. This whole process took much longer than I thought, however eventually they were all copied and tidied and ready for printing and binding.

During this time, I kept in contact with the ASSWA sub-committee giving them up-to-date information of how the project was going.

Outcomes of the project



Once I had the documents ready, I took them to McCallum Printing. We had fourteen sets of the documents bound and there were six volumes in a set. We had 100 DVD’s make as well (See Appendix Four). I was extremely excited to see these bound copies and DVD’s as this has been a concern and passion of mine since 2004. The fourteen bound printed sets and DVD’s will be sent to Africa at a later date. ASSWA need to determine who will get these documents, however a bound set will be sent to Wits for the ASWEA archives. A DVD will be sent to Minnesota to the IASSW archives. I have submitted a proposal for a grant to secure money to send them to Africa. The shipping costs were much more than I anticipated so extra money was needed for this purpose.







Challenges to the project

There were many challenges to the project that I have explained above. In particular the amount of time it took to copy, tidy, print and bound the sets. However, I can say that the documents are in great shape and are readable. We are still missing four documents,

# 1, #2, #4 and #5. If these can eventually be found a seventh volume could be added to the six that have been printed. The $4,000USD will cover the most of the cost of the printing and bounding of the sets and the scanning of the documents. However, it will not cover part of the shipping that was allocated in the original budget.

Conclusion



According to IASSW’s mission statement, projects funded through IASSW are to “develop and promote excellence in social work education, research and scholarship…as well as support and facilitate participation in mutual exchanges of information and expertise”. This project will give the opportunity for African academics, practitioners and teachers the opportunity to use indigenous historical documents concerning the evolution of social work in Africa for teaching and research instead of relying solely on western documents and articles. I am excited to move on to the fourth stage of this overall project in which Africans will have the opportunity to analyze these documents and write about them, thus supporting the need for more indigenous knowledge.

The Association of Schools of Social Work in Africa (ASSWA) is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote excellence among schools of social work on the African continent. It forms part of a global network comprising two mother bodies, the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW), the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) and various other membership bodies. ASSWA and its professional counterpart, IFSW-Africa, have been constituted to represent African interests in this context.

The Association for Social Work Education in Africa (ASWEA), organized in 1971, was a non-profit organization dedicated to social work education in Africa. Between 1971 and 1990, ASWEA seminars were held with documents written up about each seminar. ASWEA is no longer in existence and ASSWA has now taken over all publications by this organization and has copyright to them.

As President of ASSWA, I give permission for Dr. Linda Kreitzer to copy the all ASWEA seminar documents in order that they can be printed and bound for student and faculty use in Africa. I also give permission for CD/DVD’s to be made so that these documents can be viewed on the computer.

Trabalhadores Socias Mexicanos Celebran o seu Dia

“El Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) informó que el “Día del Trabajador Social”, que se conmemora el 21 de agosto, llevará a cabo, como cada año, la Jornada Delegacional Académica y Social en el municipio de Ensenada.

Al respecto se realizará una serie de conferencias para las trabajadoras sociales de todas las unidades médicas, donde se espera una asistencia de más de 130 trabajadores, entre ellos ocho y 125 trabajadoras adscritos en las ciudades de Mexicali, Tijuana, Tecate, Playas de Rosarito, Ensenada y San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora.
el salón de convenciones del Hotel San Nicolás en Ensenada, el próximo viernes 27 de agosto a partir de las 9 de la mañana, el cual será encabezado por el delegado regional del IMSS, Pablo Contreras Rodríguez, y por la licenciada Domitila Padilla Noriega, jefa delegacional de Trabajo Social en Atención Médica, y las trabajadoras sociales Rebeca Figueroa Gasca, por Salud Pública, y Guadalupe López Ramírez, por Salud en el Trabajo.

Dentro de las actividades se dictará la conferencia magistral “Modelo de Atención socio-médica de enfermera domiciliaria en adultos mayores de 70 años derechohabientes del IMSS”, el cual es un proyecto de investigación que actualmente se encuentra en etapa de aplicación a cargo de la doctora Julia Mora Altamirano, en coordinación IMSS-Cicese. Además de los temas de Gerontologia, Praxis Multidisciplinaría y Tres Disciplinas (médico, enfermera y trabajador social), quienes expondrán su intervención.

Dentro del mismo festejo, el viernes por la noche se llevará a cabo la cena-baile en el salón de convenciones del mismo hotel, a partir de las 19:00 horas, donde se espera la asistencia del personal de trabajo social de las diferentes unidades de la delegación.” (El Sol de Tijuana)

Chihuahua
“Este sábado 21 de Agosto se celebra el Día del Trabajador Social, profesión más desempeñada por mujeres, pero a la cual se han sumado un cinco por ciento de hombres, al menos aquí en la Delegación Estatal Chihuahua del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, a quienes durante este 21 de agosto se les festeja su Día, con la realización de un magno evento estatal en la ciudad de Cuauhtémoc, en donde se reunen representantes de este servicio de todas las unidades médicas de la institución en Chihuahua.
Es tradicional que las y los trabajadores sociales del IMSS celebren este día con eventos de capacitación, como son las Jornadas de Trabajo Social, asimismo el delegado estatal, José Antonio García Aguirre, ya les envió una felicitación personalizada y de reconocimiento a la labor que realizan a nombre de la Dirección General de la institución.

En Ciudad Juárez, habrá otro festejo, será el próximo viernes, con conferencias a las que concurrirán las y los trabajadores sociales de los tres hospitales y 13 unidades de medicina familiar de la Zona.
El servicio de Trabajo Médico Social en los hospitales del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro tiene como función básica de ser el enlace entre médico, paciente y los familiares de los enfermos; pero también realizan en hospitales y unidades de medicina familiar programas prioritarios de la institución para lograr una mejor calidad de vida de nuestra población derechohabiente, como son el combate de la obesidad y el sobrepeso, la promoción de la lactancia materna, de la salud reproductiva, entre otras.
Es el IMSS la institución que mayor número de estos profesionistas ocupa para sus unidades médicas y para los Centros de Seguridad Social. En la Delegación Chihuahua se cuenta con 200 trabajadoras y trabajadores sociales, de los cuales 80 se ubican en las unidades de servicio en Ciudad Juárez.” (El Círculo Rojo)

Distrito Federal

“El titular de la Sedeso, Martí Batres Guadarrama, urgió a convertir en ley las innovaciones del Gobierno del Distrito Federal en materia de programas sociales, porque “deben ser derechos permanentes para las siguientes generaciones”.



El titular de la Secretaría de Desarrollo Social (Sedeso) capitalina citó entre esos programas los de entrega gratuita de útiles y uniformes escolares, Mejoramiento Barrial, Seguro de Desempleo y la beca universal en bachillerato.



En el marco del Día del Trabajador Social, este sábado el funcionario local dijo que frente a la difícil situación económica resulta indispensable que los programas sociales se mantengan y amplíen.



Tras reconocer la labor de los trabajadores sociales como “aliados” en la lucha por la igualdad y el bienestar de la sociedad, comentó que en la ciudad se ha dado muestra de lo que puede ser un nuevo rumbo.



“Vamos empezando pero se ha construido ya un primer piso; el ámbito social ha sido lo más importante en el Gobierno del Distrito Federal”, dijo.



El Distrito Federal es la entidad con mayor número de programas sociales, como Niños Talento, apoyo a discapacitados y adultos mayores, que forman parte de los 450 planes que atienden personas en situación vulnerable de la ciudad, aseguró.



Batres, acompañado por la directora de Trabajo Social de la UNAM, Graciela Casas Torres, se reunió con profesionistas del ramo, con quienes destacó la relevancia que tiene su colaboración en el desarrollo y bienestar de los capitalinos, pues fomenta la integración a través de la temática social.



En el Club de Periodistas, ante académicos y trabajadores sociales, el titular de la Sedeso aseguró que unirán esfuerzos para combatir la pobreza y fomentar la cohesión social en la capital del país.



Explicó que la pobreza desencadena problemas como desigualdad territorial, ciudades perdidas, asentamientos irregulares, adicciones, alcoholismo, violencia familiar, población callejera y crisis alimentaria, cuya atención requiere de profesionales en materia social.



Batres Guadarrama se pronunció por una alternativa pacífica en el combate a la delincuencia y pidió “no más violencia sino más fraternidad, no atacar más al colectivo social sino rodearlo de respaldo y de apoyo, no romper más a las comunidades sino unirlas y reconstruirlas”.



Antes de entregar reconocimientos a colaboradores destacados de México y Latinoamérica, reiteró su agradecimiento a la Red de Trabajadores Sociales de la Ciudad de México.”


Jalisco


Con el fin de reconocer las aportaciones que los trabajadores sociales han realizado dentro de su trayectoria profesional, se llevó a cabo la capacitación a más de 400 trabajadoras sociales procedentes de los 125 municipios del Estado de Jalisco organizada por el Sistema para el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia Jalisco (DIF).



El evento se contó con la presencia de Cecilia Landerreche Gómez Morfín, presidenta del Sistema DIF Nacional; Felipe Valdez De Anda, director General del Sistema DIF Jalisco y Juan Víctor Contreras Magallón, subdirector General de Fortalecimiento Municipal del Sistema DIF Jalisco.



A través de conferencias y un panel abordado por expertos, bajo el slogan “El trabajador social como agente de cambio” se busca proporcionar las herramientas necesarias que habrán de servirles a las trabajadoras sociales para que éstas las apliquen desde su lugar de trabajo de una mejor manera y de acuerdo a su perfil.



Cecilia Landerreche Gómez Morfín, les dirigió un emotivo mensaje a las trabajadoras sociales “Yo sé que una de las cuestiones más importantes del Sistema DIF en conjunto y sus tres órdenes de gobierno, es que la gente lo considera el corazón del gobierno. El día de hoy lo puedo comprobar y creo que todas ustedes están poniendo la semilla del cambio en el país. Con su trabajo el cambio en México se tiene que dar desde las personas, desde las familias y comunidades con quienes ustedes laboran y ustedes son las que lo están haciendo”.



El área de Trabajo Social está enfocada únicamente a la atención y orientación de la población más vulnerable y en situación de riesgo, permitiéndoles a los trabajadores sociales adquirir experiencias y conocimientos de la problemática actual que presenta nuestra sociedad, así también está encaminado a impulsar propuestas de proyectos sociales que contribuyan a prevenir y atender dicha problemática.



Dentro del marco de este evento se llevó a cabo la premiación a 6° Concurso Mérito al Desempeño Profesional en Trabajo Social “Martha Alamillo Hernández”, entregándoles un obsequio que consta de un incentivo económico.

“Oaxaca de Juárez, 20 de agosto. El director general del Hospital Regional de Alta Especialidad de Oaxaca (HRAEO), Carlos Arnaud Carreño reconoció el desempeño de los trabajadores sociales en su dia, que se celebra oficialmente este 21 de agosto, “la labor que realizan es fundamental para brindar un servicio con calidad y calidez a quienes en algún momento de su vida llegan a presentar algún problema de salud”.



Señalò que los Tutores, como se les llama a los trabajadores sociales en el HRAEO, son el rostro del hospital, ya que en ellos los usuarios encuentran apoyo, confianza y una sonrisa en los momentos más difíciles en el proceso de atención a su padecimiento. Esta labor es difícil, porque tienen que informar a los familiares sobre situaciones críticas de los enfermos, donde hay que dar incluso malas noticias.



Arnaud Carreño, precisó que es necesario, hoy en día, demostrar que con voluntad y decisión se pueden hacer muchas cosas positivas a favor de la salud de los oaxaqueños, pese a las restricciones económicas y presupuestales, para avanzar en el fortalecimiento de una infraestructura de salud amplia y moderna, con los mejores servicios, como lo es el HRAEO.



Recordó que el trabajador social en el área de la salud, es el profesional del equipo multidisciplinario que conoce las carencias y necesidades sociales que inciden en el proceso salud-enfermedad, identifica las redes familiares y sociales, así como la orientación en la realización de trámites con el fin de coadyuvar en el bienestar de los usuarios, durante su estancia.



Asimismo, subrayó que “dentro de las unidades médicas, el trabajador social es parte fundamental del equipo interdisciplinario, pues a través de éste, los demás profesionales de la Salud pueden conocer el entorno social de sus pacientes y por lo tanto, generarles un trato más digno y más efectivo”.



Promueve, además, la utilización de los recursos disponibles, a través de acciones de investigación, planeación y programación, educación social, promoción, prevención, asesoría social y administración, orientadas a la recuperación de la salud y a la participación de individuos, grupos y comunidades.



Finalmente, el funcionario, exhortó a los trabajadores sociales a mantener vivo el espíritu de servicio, el trato amable y digno hacia los usuarios que acuden diariamente al Hospital Regional de Alta Especialidad de Oaxaca.”

“El IMSS en Hermosillo celebró el “Día del Trabajador Social” con una serie de actividades enfocadas a la capacitación y dirigidas al personal que labora en los diferentes hospitales y clínicas de medicina familiar de todo el Estado.



La ceremonia estuvo presidida por autoridades institucionales y de la Sección 13 del Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores el Seguro Social, quienes reconocieron la labor y profesionalismo mediante el trabajo cotidiano responsable, eficiente y con sentido humanista con el que se desempeñan las Trabajadoras Sociales en beneficio de nuestros derechohabientes.



Dentro de las jornadas de capacitación se desarrollaron conferencias y pláticas enfocadas a la solución de la problemática que se detecta diariamente entre los derechohabientes de cada unidad médica.” (El Imparcial)

“Personal del departamento de trabajo social con más de dos décadas de servicio, recibió ayer reconocimiento de manos de la Directora de ISSSTESON, Teresa Lizárraga Figueroa, quien resaltó su ardua labor que requiere de mucha compasión y fortaleza para servir al prójimo.



No sin antes felicitarlos porque este sábado se festeja su día, destacó también su enorme capacidad de gestión, de tender siempre la mano solidaria al derechohabiente en la solución o seguimiento de sus demandas más apremiantes.



Acompañada por directivos del instituto, entregó reconocimientos a personal con más de 20 años de servicio, así como, regalos a los 118 trabajadores sociales que laboran en la Institución y que en su mayoría son mujeres.



Anualmente, atienden a 85 mil personas y tienen a su cargo gestionar citas médicas que cada año superan las 48 mil, los principios de los derechos humanos y la justicia son fundamentales para el trabajador social.



Como parte de los festejos, ISSSTESON a través de su departamento de trabajo social preparó una serie de conferencias en las que ofrecieron temas de sumo interés como; Manejo del Estrés, Actitud del Triunfador, entre otros.



Presentes el Jefe del Departamento de Trabajado Social, Roberto Martínez Téllez, el Subdirector de Servicios Médicos, Gerardo Mada Vélez, el Secretario General de SUEISSSTESON, Oscar Huerta López y directores de centros médicos del instituto
