Assistentes Sociais Solicitam apoio para Vítimas do Terramoto do Japão Social Workers Prepared to Help Victims of Devastating Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan

In recognition of World Social Work Day, March 15, 2011, encourages members to get involved in the aftermath of the deadly earthquake in Japan and the tragic tsunami it triggered. The NASW is issuing an alert to its 145,000 members to help support recovery efforts for victims and their families. On World Social Work Day, March 15, 2011, we are especially mindful of our international colleagues. If you would like to join in the social work response to this disaster, you can donate through the NASW Foundation’s Social Work Disaster Assistance Fund to assist social workers and/or social welfare organizations who can provide help.

In this complex and developing disaster, our colleagues in the Japanese professional social work association are uniquely suited to assess the disaster environment in a culturally competent manner and to provide leadership in promoting effective disaster relief and recovery efforts. 100% of donations through the NASW Foundation for the earthquake and tsunami in Japan will be forwarded to our professional colleagues in Japan to enable social workers to assist in the ongoing relief efforts there.

NASW recognizes that some of our members and friends in the international community have lost loved ones through this tragedy. Our thoughts are with those affected by this terrible disaster.
